Let's Bridge Together
Emily Hefner and Alyssa Strauss of Troop 810
are helping Daisy Troop 66 Bridge
to Brownies. Emily and Alyssa organized other
members from Troop 810 to plan an afternoon of fun and
badge work for the soon-to-be Brownies. As part of
their bridging requirements the Daisy Girl Scouts earned
the Play Around the World Try-It, the Let's Pretend
Try-It, and the Travel Right Try-It.
Everyone had a great time...boy were we tired!

Presents for Pets
Jessica Grimes, Casandra Gomez, Maggie Farrar, and Brittany Speer of
Troop 810 collected donations for the
Riverside Humane Society. The girls also stuffed
over 400 goodie bags for the 14th Annual Walk with the
Animals, a fundraiser for the Humane Society. They
also volunteered to staff the water booths during the
event, providing water to walk participants, including
people, dogs, and even llamas.

Girl Scout Thanksgiving
Victoria
B., Audrey B.,
Caroline S., and Heather S. of Troop 87 collected
names of Girl Scout families in need this Thanksgiving
holiday season. They requested donations of food
items from the Mt. Rubidoux troops. The donated
food was packaged to provide complete Thanksgiving meals
(even turkey!) to several families in need in our area.
Extra food was donated to a local food bank. The
girls worked reallly hard, right up to the last minute.

Project Angel Tree
Kassandra C., Brittany G., Emily P., and Nicholle V. of
Troop 578
in cooperation with Catholic Charities of San
Bernardino and Riverside, worked to provided a wonderful
Christmas for a family in need. The girls obtained
details of a family's wants and needs, distributed the
requests to the troops of the Service Unit, organized
and wrapped the gifts and provided them to Catholic
Charities for delivery to the family. The girls
did an excellent job.

Easter Egg Collection
Raquel B., Amanda C., and Royanne A. of Troop 578
provided a local city park with hundreds of
candy-filled plastic Easter Eggs. The girls
recruited the troops of the Mt. Rubidoux Service Unit
and had each troop donate filled eggs or baskets.
The girls filled their own eggs, collected eggs from
other troops, and created several "Spring baskets" for
distribution at the city park. Thank you
girls...good work.

2003 - 2004
Take a Pause for Those with Paws
Samantha Bales, Maggie Davis, Christina McCarty, Jessica McCarty, and Alexis Thomas of Troop
599 collected items to make 12 adoption kits for the
Riverside Humane Society. The adoption kits contained
either puppy or cat food, toys, treats, brushes and a note
from the girls. Extra items collected were donated to
restock the Humane Societies cleaning supplies. The
girls also helped the Humane Society with the 13th Annual
Walk with the Animals event. The scouts prepared 300
"goodie bags" for the event. They also manned the
water stations along the walk-a-thon route. Passing
out water to thirsty pooches and their owners.

2002 - 2003
Project Christmas Wrap
The members of
Troop 75 collected new toys from the troops of the Mt.
Rubidoux Service Unit. They sorted the toys based
on age/gender-appropriateness and wrapped and labeled
each gift. The gifts were then donated to a local
fire station for distribution during the Christmas
holiday season.

Project Thanksgiving Dinner
Stephanie Bravo, Susan Farrar, Kristine Pachas, and Kathleen Sawa of
Troop 187 (to become Troop 599) collected
non-perishable food and cash donations from the troops
of the Mt. Rubidoux Service Unit. They also
requested names of families in need during the
Thanksgiving season. The girls sorted the food
donations and purchased perishable items, such as milk,
frozen pies, and turkeys. They created complete
Thanksgiving dinners that were delivered to nine
families in need. Three additional dinner-baskets
and over 100 non-perishable food items were given to the
food bank at St. Francis de Sales Church for
distribution.

Project Christmas Love
Alyssa Landau and Amanda Sanchez of Troop 187 (to become
Troop 599) helped to plan and host parts of the
Light up a Life ceremony, a remembrance of loved
ones. The event is organized by a local Hospice
and the Visiting Nurses Association of the Inland Empire
and allows families of those who have lost loved ones
during the past year to gather and remember. The
girls prepared heart ornaments for each family and for
decorations, they helped with the administrative jobs
required before the event (flyers, invitations, etc.),
decorated the Christmas tree, acted as guides and
welcomed the family members to the event, and led the
flag ceremony, and helped with set-up and clean-up for
the event.

Project Puppy Love
Christina Lopez of Troop 187 (to become Troop 599)
volunteered many hours helping to clean the cages at the
BARC cat adoption center located in the local Petsmart.
She also organized her fellow scouts for a cleanup day
at the BARC facility for dogs. Christina's
love for animals inspired her to complete this project.

Project Linus
Chelsea Miller of Troop 187 (to become Troop 599) made
knitting needles for all seventeen members of the troop
and arranged for knitting lessons for everyone.
She purchased the yarn and we spent several meeting
knitting and knitted at home as well. Chelsea
helped everyone to produce a 4 x 4 square, collected the
squares, and created a beautiful blanket that was
donated to Project Linus. Chelsea also spent time
creating several other donations to Project Linus.

Project Fuzzy Slippers
Members of
Troop 1160 collected new slippers from the troops of Mt.
Rubidoux. The slippers were donated to the Ronald
McDonald House to be distributed to children staying for
prolonged treatment at the Loma Linda Children's
Hospital. The troop also volunteered their time to
shop and prepare several dinners for the busy families
staying at the Ronald McDonald House. The families
often cannot spare time to prepare food for themselves
and end up eating fast food. The home-cooked meals
prepared by Troop 1160 were welcomed by all.

Super Troop!
Stephanie B. and Madison P. of Troop 1500
organized activities and outings for girls in our Service
Unit that were without troops. They ran program for
Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors meeting once a month.
The new scouts earned recognitions and went on field trips
while they waited for an opening in a more permanent troop.

Tea Time!
Jamie Tison of Troop 255 organized a
Leader-Daughter Tea. She learned about "high tea"
and prepared delicious dainties for all to enjoy. A
featured speaker spoke to the ladies about safety
issues. The younger girls performed skits for all.
And everyone left with a beautiful mother/daughter
photograph.

Learning is Fun Kindergarten Style
Susan Farrar and Kathleen Sawa of Troop 599 coordinated a
small group from the troop to volunteer in 2 Kindergarten
classrooms at a local elementary school for six months.
The volunteers assisted with enrichment programs in reading
and math as required
by the school's curriculum. With the help of their
Silver Award Advisor, the girls also designed and
created several sets of educational games for the
classroom. The games were designed to help
kindergarten-age children with letter recognition,
number recognition, simple addition, and high frequency
word recognition. Congratulations, ladies!!

Survivor Day Camp!
Holly C. Claire F. and Melissa K. of Troop 255
organized a day camp for younger girls with a twist.
Activities and events were based upon the ever popular
Survivor! TV show...Fun was had by all. The girls
put a lot of work into preparing the event! Great effort
girls.
Advisor: Judy Tison
Skill Time!
Amber B., Megan K., Bridgette O., and Roxanne P. of
Troop 737 taught younger girls the skills needed to
be a successful camper. The variety of stations
included, sleeping bag rolling, tent pitching, outdoor
cooking, and outdoor safety! Fun was had by all in
attendance. Thank you girls for your dedication to
our younger sisters.

Cool Conservation
Hannah Fletcher and Lauren Walker of Troop 599
are joined
with other Cadettes and Seniors throughout the San Gorgonio Council
to host the GSSGC-sponsored Cool Conservation event.
Lauren and Hannah organized fellow Cadette and
Senior Girl Scouts to host a booth at which Brownie Girl
Scouts can earn their Water Everywhere Try-It and
Junior Girl Scouts can earn their
Water Wonders Badge. They also invited the
Bureau of Land Management to the event and sponsored an
informational booth about the Linking Girls to the
Land project.

International Sports Day
Kim Jardine of Troop 1160 organized a day of fun and
games where girls of all ages will learn sports from
around the world. Girls visited seven countries,
play gamed, and have an All-American lunch of hot dogs &
chips. This event served as the Mt. Rubidoux
Service Unit "Kick-off" the year event!

Taking Care of Baby Sister Troop Day
Amanda Sanchez and Cecilia Alvarado of Troop 599 organized a Sister Troop Baby Shower. Daisies to
Cadettes attended and had fun playing baby shower games,
winning door prizes, and sharing cake and punch.
Each guest brought a baby shower gift and all gifts were
donated to Riverside Life Services. To
complete the project Amanda spent the summer
volunteering doing clerical and other duties for
Riverside Life Services and Cecilia is conducting a
children's book drive to benefit Riverside Life Services
(see below).

Book It!
Cecilia Alvarado of Troop 599 is collected new and gently
used children's books.
She organize the donations and deliver them to
Riverside Life Services where they will be distributed
to young women who have decided to keep their babies
resulting from unplanned pregnancies. To complete
her project, Cecilia is partnered with Amanda S. to
plan the Sister Troop Baby Shower.

Women in the Workforce Project
Regina from Troop 369
completed her Silver Award Summer 2004. She held four
clothing drives and family and friends donated a huge amount
of items from shoes to coats. All items were washed,
sorted by sizes, and repaired. Her main focus was
women's career and business attire. Many of the
suits and office suitable clothing were donated to the
Riverside Community College Work Force Program for women to
use for job interviews. The remaining items were
donated to various shelter for children and the Riverside
Mission.

Super Troop!
Renee T., Jemia R., Monique E., Katie S. and Katie B. of
Troop 1500 organized activities and outings for
girls in our Service Unit that were without troops.
They ran program for Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors meeting

donated to children in the foster care system.
